Essential Refreshment for the Soul

So enamoured with the spectacular landscape of Matobo Hills in Zimbabwe’s south was Cecil John Rhodes, the intrepid 19th century imperialist that he instructed that this riot of rock be his last resting place. This place - of utter peace, astounding scenery, like giant rock popcorn as far as the eye can see - is the haunt of the rare Black Eagle, and on countless rock faces a gallery of exquisite ancient cave art – exhibiting the secrets of the San custodians of all that flourished here millennia ago.

Here too is found Matobo Hills Lodge – a splendid sanctuary placed thoughtfully upon and incorporating the giant boulders in its design, in salute to Nature’s sculpture masterpiece. A short 55 kilometres from Bulawayo, this luxurious thatched hideaway on the edge of Matobo National Park offers the few privileged enough to sample it a World Heritage Site experience blended with safari activities.
